God Calls Us to Work to Overcome Poverty: World Summit NYC, Sept. 14-16

World leaders will converge at the United Nations to focus on a commitment made in 2000 to cut extreme global poverty by half by 2015. There will be a gathering at Dag Hammarskjold Plaza near the United Nations from September 14-16 to worship, pray, fast, and bear public witness to the scandal of global poverty.Sojourners, along with other sponsors will be heading a campaign to petition President Bush and other world leaders in the pursuit of overcoming global poverty. According to information we received from Sojourner organizers,

"the event will consist of 3 days of prayer, fasting, and public witness to call on world leaders to deliver on promises they made in 2000 to cut
extreme global poverty by 2015. While we do not require that you fast
during all or part of the 3 days, we hope to show a large group of people
who will. The 3 days will include events with children lifting up their voices
as well as world and nationally renowned religious leaders, and of course – you!"

I will be volunteering one day. You can also educate your congregation on liturgy/worship resources to overcome poverty.
